Understanding The Somatic Component

Soma means body in Greek. Somatic expression is the body’s expression of our experienced lives. This means emotional traumas, unexpressed feelings, emotional patterns, as well as joyful feelings. Often the physical pain and dysfunction we feel is, in part, a somatic expression of our specific emotional stressors and traumas, indicating what may be imbalanced and needs attention.

We forget we are embodied. We live all dimensions of our lives, within these bodies. Our wise bodies do indeed talk to us; learning how to listen and understand what is being said, teaches us what we need to heal, potentially on all levels- physical, emotional, psychological and spiritual.

I began my career strongly embedded in structural healing; through time, my comprehension of somatic expression has grown. I deeply appreciate and am honored to have worked intimately with so many wonderful people, who graciously have shown me how our life stories are intertwined with our body’s wellness.

To be clear, I am not a licensed psychotherapist and cannot assist you as such. I am here to gently hold space - listen, witness, respond with empathy and compassion- for whatever may arise in each client. I can offer support and if necessary refer you to a qualified therapist.

I have been seeing Wendy for regular massages for nearly a decade - she is an amazing massage therapist! She has an intuitive touch that finds the trouble spots and knows how to help them. Her therapeutic approach, calm presence, and comfortable space always leave me feeling relaxed, cared for, and like I am moving more freely. She also has great music playing! I highly recommend Wendy.”
