My Approach: Fascia

Although I am not a Rolfer myself, I do work with similar principles and techniques of unwinding and releasing tight fascia. Fascia is a network of soft tissue throughout your entire body; fascia encapsulates muscle bundles and fibers, and connects muscles, bone and joints. Bound, dry or sticky fascia can cause muscle and joint restrictions. Unwinding the fascia helps release these restrictions and brings greater mobility and freedom from pain.

Deep Tissue and myofascial techniques sink to the deeper level of soft tissue and fascia, which help release these restrictions. My own approach is to gradually sink in to the deeper layers, preparing the tissue for more detailed work. *I don’t pummel muscle.* The more detailed work may involve holding, stretching, cross fiber friction, along with structural movement. This is often followed by flowing integrative strokes, rocking or stretching, which helps soothe the nervous system and muscles and allows the body to integrate the work.

I first went to Wendy about eight years ago to address some jaw tension and neck pain. Her healing hands quickly resolved the problem, and I felt immediate relief. I found her to be thoughtful, professional, kind, and deeply intuitive; and so I continued to schedule massages on a regular schedule. Her work continues to be revelatory and wonderful; with Wendy’s help I move better, sleep better, and perform better. She is amazing at what she does!”
